You need a car. Or maybe you just want "a car".
They are all the same, right? A car is a car. Are you laughing? Of course you are. That's ridiculous right?
So if you need or want a car...WHY? It's likely for your "image" or you need a reliable vehicle to get around or do a job. Reasoning might be...
The other kids have one. So YOU need one too.
And, of course, they all look the same. And COST the same. Right? Ha! Now you are ROFL. Am I correct?
So then, is it possible to have a "car" that just sits in the driveway and falls apart? Surely. How about a really pretty car but it has a broken engine and doesn't run? It's a pretty car. You "have a car".
But let's be serious. If you are like most car buyers, You need or want a GOOD car. One that is in good mechanical condition, is safe, suits your purposes, is affordable AND gets you to wherever you need to go. Hopefully it looks nice too. Is that right? Of course it is!
But what in the world does all of this have to do with WEBSITES?
Actually, nothing. But it IS an excellent illustration of the true value of a car...as well as a "website".
So what happens now, if we substitute "website" for "car" in all of the above scenarios? Go ahead and do that now.
Done? Do you see what a great exercise that is? A car is not a car. A website is not just a website or an online advertisement. Both are vehicles which serve a specific purpose. Mainly to get you, reliably and affordably, to exactly where you need to go. A car takes you to a destination. A business website is a vehicle to financial success.
So...with both cars and websites or houses or schools, etc.
What is it, exactly, that you want or need? Here are some possible answers:
CHEAP! - It's "a car". Lol.
Is it really just "junk"? Will it get you anywhere? Nope.
Pretty - Looks nice. But anything broken inside? Can I drive it? Or is it just pretty on the outside and will break down? Hmmm. Is this a smart way to buy?
Functional - Looks nice, affordable, gets me where i need to go. Good for awhile! Seems like a very practical choice.
Quality - Wow. This is REALLY sweet. Newer, should last a long time. It can do the most for me. Still affordable too! This is really great! This seems like the best value hands down.
Luxury - Whoa! This is awesome. I would LOVE to have this one. But yikes! Pretty expensive. Do I really need one this amazing? Maybe down the road?
Are you starting to see the common sense reasoning?
Isn't the smart money in the Functional and Quality range?
Doesn't that apply to almost everything? Cars, houses, furniture, clothes, appliances, etc.?
So why would it not apply to something CRITICAL to the success of your business? It does! Don't be unreasonable.
Don't fall for cheap or free ploys. They are nothing but placeholders. There is no MEAT on the bone. No Fuel in the tank ( no TANK! ).
The ENGINE of the web is Google! (Google and Bing - that's what they are called Search ENGINES) If no fuel gets to the engine...where will you go? Yep. Nowhere.
But you might look pretty! That is IF anyone ever sees you. Again, none will because you are parked in the GARAGE with no tank and no gas.
The FUEL is content! Content is pages and pages of excellent information for the buyers you want to give you money. It's simple. The more pages of great content, the more buyers find you. This is equivalent to the QUALITY car in the examples. This means you make more money!
So when it comes to something as vitally important as your business, Which will it be? Cheap/Free? Pretty? Practical/Quality? or Luxury?
The right decision should now be totally obvious.
